Márk Módly, the founder and CEO of PEPPERMARKS, has been
fascinated by technology since childhood. As the eldest child in a
family of six, he had to learn early how to achieve real results
in a competitive environment. His background in sports especially
in competitive swimming and water polo, contributed to his early
development of perseverance and a commitment towards continuous
improvement.
After learning to read, he began exploring the deeper layers of
technology. At the age of eight receiving his first computer, he
immediately immersed himself in the world of computers and the
internet. By the age of thirteen, he was working in his spare time
alongside school and quickly realized that the key to success
depends on acquiring "special" knowledge.
By fourteen, he was already building websites and custom
solutions. One challenging project required processing – at the
time unusually large amount of data - about 1 GB of raw sensor log
at fifteen, he bought his first laptop, which was a rare import
device in Hungary at the time.
Later, he provided hosting services from the United States,
offering solutions to companies in Germany and Hungary. During his
years at the university, he continued to work in IT on various
projects, including the development of payment systems for
festivals and designing NFC card-based access control systems. He
also contributed to the development of the multi-use Budapest Card
and wrote and maintained operating systems for touch-screen
information terminals, which were used around Lake Balaton and in
Northern Hungary.
In 2014, he launched his first legal entity in Hungary. Since
then, he has worked with numerous multinational enterprises,
including Deutsche Wertpapier Bank, Portigon, MVM, the Hungarian
State Treasury, KDB, Vodafone, IVU, Oracle, the Ministry of
Agriculture, and MFB. Additionally, he has conducts substantial
amount of training and consulting for his partners.
Márk earned both of his BSc and MSc degrees in Computer
Engineering from the Budapest University of Technology and
Economics. His qualifications include the unique Oracle Certified
Master Java Enterprise Architect and Java Certified Developer and
he also possesses the “Golden wheat ear farmer” certification to
better understand agricultural projects and terminology.
His development knowledge includes Assembly, Java, JavaScript,
PHP, Python, Bash, C, C#, HTML, CSS, TypeScript, SQL, and PL/SQL.
He is also familiar with Ruby, Cobol, and Informix 4GL and he has
trained over 1,300 university students and hundreds of workshop
participants and led numerous complex IT projects in the
past.
As a speaker, he has presented and led workshops at several
conferences, including BSides, Hacktivity, Hétpecsét, and HWSW
meetups. Since 2019, he has been a lecturer on cyber security and
enterprise architecture design at Eötvös Loránd University
(ELTE).
Besides being critical on the quality of his colleagues, Márk is
super critical of his own work as well. As he believed in his
childhood that acquiring knowledge was the clear path to success,
so is he dedicating significant time and energy to continuously
develop and educate himself and his team while closely
collaborating with his partners and overseeing the professional
operations of his company.
